Investigating History with Landscapes

The landscapes at IslandWood tell three stories-- some have been modified by natural forces (i.e. earthquakes, glaciers), and cultural forces (logging, farming, native american settlements). Some have been created to tell a story (i.e. the fireplaces, and the controlled wetlands). Click on the images below to go to specific pages, or here to go directly to the lessons.
Follow the menu bar above or the links below the picture to discover more background information, expected standards for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students, and anticipated alternative conceptions.

If you are an educator or teacher click here to find out 4th, 5th, and 6th understandings of geologic forces based upon FEMA curricula (Tremor Troops and Seismic Sleuths), Washington State EALRs, and AAAS Project 2061.

To find out more about Alternative Conceptions that may inhibit student understanding, please follow the above link.
